Kresge Arts in Detroit recognizes photography as an art form as well as a means of documenting the world around us. The Featured Photographer initiative spotlights a previously awarded photographer’s work on a monthly basis.
In May 2024, Brian Day (2021 Kresge Artist Fellow) was invited to participate in the second installment of Kresge Arts in Detroit’s Featured Photographer project.
Brian is a third-generation Detroiter who has won numerous awards for photography including the Documenting Detroit Fellowship, Michigan Chronicle’s Men of Excellence award, and an International Photography award in Architecture. In 2020, Brian was commissioned by Apple to photograph the feature “Hometown: Detroit.”
For one year, Brian documented studio practices and public art by Kresge Artist Fellows, Kresge Eminent Artists, and Gilda Award recipients. The photographs showcasing his unique interpretation of metro Detroit artists and artwork were presented each month on social media.
