Work-in-Progress: Cybelle Codish
I am currently working on a book project called “The Price of Silence” regarding the current culture of silencing forced upon victims of sexual harassment/assault: The NDA. It is a series of environmental portraits without the victim as subject, as any association with a project of this nature could violate the terms of their agreement. The portraits’ commonality is that each image is of a space in their home that denotes an intimacy and personality as well as an image of their hands holding an object that represents the cause or effect of their circumstances. My hope is that this book is not only informative, but also illuminating, and that it leads to a catharsis for any victim that still remains victimized by the very system that was put in place to protect them.
The result of the battle for what is right should not be muted.
In response to social isolation guidelines, Kresge Arts in Detroit asked Kresge Artist Fellows and Gilda Award recipients to give us a glimpse into their current and recent projects. Participating artists received stipends of $150, a quick response pivot of resources that could be implemented by the program as an immediate - albeit small level - of support to Detroit area artists.
